Texaport Helps Free Church of Scotland Get Connected
Free Church of Scotland
With its origins dating back to 1843, the Free Church of Scotland is a religious organisation which is committed to promoting Christianity in Scotland and beyond. With over 100 congregations and around 8,000 people, from a wide range of backgrounds who regularly attend its Sunday services, the Free Church prides itself on being an open organisation offering a warm and gracious welcome to anyone wishing to attend its free congregation services.
We began providing IT Support to the Free Church in 2016, starting at their head offices on The Mound in Edinburgh. At this time they were in desperate need of better network support to help them modernise the organisation and ensure it was fit for purpose in connecting with existing and potential members as well as wider stakeholders.
Texaport helped its client successfully apply to a Government Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme that was in place at that time – as a charity the Free Church was eligible for this support. This helped fund a robust network upgrade within its headquarters building. This included the installation of structured network cabling throughout the premises which provided wired internet access to the Free Church’s offices.
Texaport overcame the difficult challenge of installing data cabling in the historic headquarters, ensuring the job was thoroughly completed without disturbing its aesthetic look or compromising the heritage of the building.
We then set up WiFi networking around the entire building which also serviced the Edinburgh Theological Seminary, the teaching arm of the organisation. Additionally, the WiFi network was also accessible to other subtenants who are based within the Free Church head office premises.
As a specialist which understands the importance of dependable and secure broadband, Texaport implemented an ultrafast fibre internet service. Not only did this give our client speedier internet access but it also helped ensure its data security and reduce costs by minimising the risk of downtime.
Texaport also moved the Free Church to the cloud implementing an Office365 support package with email. Cloud migration provided an extremely cost effective solution, which also gives our client greater flexibility, enhanced collaboration and robust data security. These features are essential for an organisation communicating with a wider network comprised of over 100 congregations across Scotland and other stakeholders throughout the world.
Our support includes Texaport’s Fully Managed IT services where we maintain our client’s computers and servers and provide long term strategic advice to optimise its technology efficiency. We also ensure the Free Church’s hardware is fit for purpose and fully secured, with ongoing IT support provided across its network.
Texaport has been proud to help modernise the Free Church of Scotland’s IT systems. Our support has helped connect its network across Scotland and reach out beyond ensuring the Free Church legacy of nearly 180 years will continue long into the future.
