Edinburgh IT support specialist Texaport has teamed up with Carbon Footprint Ltd to launch a new service aimed at helping clients lower their carbon footprint by offsetting the emissions of their information technology communication (ITC) equipment and infrastructure.
ICT-related carbon accounts for a an estimated 3.7% of global greenhouse emissions and is expected to double by 2025.* This figure accounts for all ICT usage, significantly bolstered by work-related operations.
Through its new service, Texaport will enable businesses, public sector bodies and charities to offset these emissions and assist their journey towards zero carbon status. It includes a detailed audit of a client’s carbon footprint and, in partnership with Carbon Footprint Ltd, tracking and reduction of carbon emissions ‘at source’ where possible. Unavoidable emissions are offset through donations to sustainability projects focused on biodiversity, education, jobs, food security, clean drinking water and heath & well-being in developing countries. This service is perfect for clients who want to commit to emission reduction, lower their carbon footprint and ultimately achieve sustainable development.
Launched in 2012, Texaport is a leading provider of comprehensive fully-managed IT support and services. The company works with a broad range of SMEs across a number of sectors including financial services, professional services, entertainment, hospitality, and social enterprises as well as with public sector and charity organisations. This carbon offsetting initiative demonstrates Texaport’s commitment to tackling climate change and taking effective climate action.
Texaport Manging Director Hugh Caldwell said: “With Glasgow hosting COP26 and the drive towards net zero continually increasing in profile, it’s clear that companies and organisations want to do their part but many need expert help to make an impact.
“Our new carbon footprint service will help employers by reducing or offsetting the emissions created by their ITC systems, a significant contributor of CO2. Working with our partners Carbon Footprint Ltd, which has a proven track record in supporting UK businesses and organisations to achieve their sustainability goals, clients can make an effective contribution in the essential journey to net zero while also supporting sustainable projects in the developing world.”
